United Thanks Offering

Blue Box Times

Thanks to all St.Lukes for your continued support of United Thank Offering. On Sunday, February 27, Gail Donovan who is Province V UTO Board Representative talked about where UTO donations are used and that 100% of donation go to funding grants for mission. Some past grants included a durable equipment ministry in Cadillac (2017), community gardens in Albion (2019), and an airplane named Blue Box for the then bishop of Alaska to visit his congregations (1953). The oldest grant from 1883 was for $375 but think how far that money went back then. If you want to listen or relisten to Gails informative homily, go to the livestream on facebook or from our website for February 27! Her homily starts at 25:44.

Our traditional form of giving is to reflect on what you are grateful for each day (which in itself is a good Lenten practice to take on), write in a gratitude journal what those gratitude moments are and put some coins in your blue box.

If you still need a blue box contact the office to pick one up! What are you grateful for today? It could be something little or big.

Julia Chester Emery was the foundress of the Blue Box ministry in her role as National Secretary of the Auxillary which eventually became Episcopal Church Women. Every woman who is an Episcopalian is automatically a member of ECW!

She served in this role from 1876 to 1913.

The icon to the left was developed in honor of the 100th year of her death this year. In 1994 she was made a saint and her Feast Day is January 9.

This year our giving options expand! If you prefer to give online or by text, we can do that too, You can still use the tried and true method and the gratitude journal to keep your Blue Box practice. Or you can set up a one time or recurring gift and St Lukes will still be recognized for your donation.

Go to to complete your online gift. Keep focusing on gratitude in your gratitude journal, or use notes to write and honor each gratitude moment!

You can use this qr code to reach this page too!

You can also Text to Give now. Send a text to 41444 with the message INGATHER and you will receive a link to fill in your donation details. There is also a place to indicate your diocese (Diocese of Western Michigan) and Parish (St Lukes Kalamazoo Michigan) in the fields in this form. Be use to only use the ingather form of the word (not ingathering or any other word).

At Saint Lukes our ingathering date will occur in Eastertide on April 24. So if you are looking for a Lenten practice this is a good one. Go back later to read your recorded gratitude items and be rewarded again.
